Antique platinum Old European Cut / Old Mine Cut diamond ring ~.75ct center oec
Description
This is a lovely antique platinum diamond ring! The center diamond is either an Old Mine Cut or an Old European Cut, also called an oec. It has the large open culet, small table, and deep cut common to older antique diamonds. It shows the beautiful chunky flashes of an old cut diamond!
The center diamond measures approximately 5.5mm by 6mm diameter, and approximately 3.6mm in depth. This corresponds roughly to ~0.75ct in an old cut diamond. It is held in place by four prongs and four corners of a box setting. The center diamond does have some white inclusions and a visible carbon spot mostly near the edge of the girdle. The area under the table is nice and clear! I think this would qualify for a clarity grade of I1. Color is probably H-I, in my opinion. I am not a jeweler, but just someone who likes diamonds!
There are 14 accent diamonds, measuring approximately 0.10 to 0.15ctw. These are prong set and channel set.
The mounting is in nice shape for the age, in my opinion. The sides are smoothed from wearing next to a wedding band, no doubt. The knife-edge shank is still rather defined. The interior is marked 10% irid 90% plat (faintly) which was the common platinum alloy mix of the day. The wear is commensurate for the age, but nothing jumps out at me as needing repair.
This ring weighs 2.7 grams and measures approximately a size 7 to 7 1/4 on my ring mandrel. It is sizable by your jeweler.
It would make a gorgeous dainty engagement ring for the lady who loves antique and vintage jewelry! I also wore it as a right hand ring.
